Developed the WHO/CDC Safe Injection Global Network Training Package

Issue: Over the 5-year period of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), World Health Organization (WHO) has developed new guidelines for safe medical injections and infection control. In addition, contractors funded by PEPFAR have developed materials and launched training programs in a number of focus countries. The purpose of this project was to use those existing materials as sources to develop a standardized, updated training package that will become part of the WHO Safe Injection Global Network's (SIGN) toolkit then ensure that all courses being taught are accurate and complete with the latest best practices.

Solution: After reviewing existing materials, we designed the package. A working group of WHO and CDC subject matter experts approved the design. We developed a draft training package for working group review. Following comments, update and approval, the package will be piloted in three (proposed) WHO regional areas then become part of the WHO-SIGN toolkit.
